City Receives $2.8 million Dollars for Phase 1 Woodman Drive (US 35 to Eastman Avenue)

March 11, 2021

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) awarded the City of Riverside a $2.8 million dollars grant to reconstruct Woodman Drive from US 35 to Eastman Avenue. This first phase of a four Phase Corridor improvement on Woodman Drive from US 35 to Springfield Street will start where the US 35 interchange reconstruction project ends. Construction will begin in 2026.

The City is responsible for 21% of the construction cost or $750,000, which will be funded from another possible grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, the City’s Permissive Tax (vehicle registration fees), Gas Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax. The City is responsible for all preliminary engineering and right-of-way acquisition, estimated at $500,000. The preliminary engineering will be funded from the City’s Permissive Tax, Gas Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax. This work will start immediately and take approximately three years to complete.

The second phase to be constructed is the section of Woodman Drive/Harshman Road from Airway Road to Springfield Street. This section is currently being studied due to the need to realign the roadway because of frequent traffic accidents that involve vehicles leaving the roadway. This phase is scheduled for reconstruction in 2027 and 2028 provided the City receives additional MVRPC grants.
