Current Employment Opportunities:

The City of Riverside is seeking to establish an eligibility list for a currently open position of Fulltime Fire Lieutenant.

A City of Riverside Fire Lieutenant must be willing to work as part of a team and build professional relationships with staff, colleagues, co-workers, elected officials, community leaders, and citizens.  This position requires a physically fit professional who has a passion to provide efficient professional Fire/EMS services with outstanding communication and leadership skills. The Fire Lieutenant works a 24/48 schedule as subject to current union contract.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least three (3) years as a Firefighter and three (3) years as an EMT with two (2) years as a Paramedic
  • Certification as an Ohio Level 2 Firefighter
  • Certification as an Ohio EMT-Paramedic, ACLS, CPR, and EMS operating protocol
  • Certification as an Ohio Fire Safety Inspector (within six (6) months of appointment)
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification
  • National Incident Management System Certification IC-100, 200, 300, 700, 800

  • Entry Wage: $27.32 / hour; Top Step: 28.59 / hour (increases 7/1/22)
  • 12 EDOs,
  • Vacation – Ranges 96 hours for entry level to 336 hour/year after 25 years (Vacation accrual credit will be awarded with prior fulltime government service).
  • Sick Leave 6.46 hours per pay. (Accrued sick leave is transferrable with verification from previous local government employer).
  • Holiday Bonus pay
  • Health Insurance (HDHP/HRA or PPO) = Employee pays 16% of total premium. Vision & Dental Insurance
  • $50,000 life insurance – $50,000 accidental death and dismemberment.

The testing/hiring process shall include but not limited to:

  • Background Investigation
  • Physical Agility tests are required prior to offer – current CPAT or equivalent are accepted.

Lieutenant Job Description

The City of Riverside is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of full-time firefighter/paramedic.

A City of Riverside Firefighter/Paramedic must be willing to work as part of a team and build professional relationships with staff, colleagues, co-workers, elected officials, community leaders, and citizens.  This position requires a physically fit professional who has a passion to provide efficient professional Fire/EMS services with outstanding communication and leadership skills. The Firefighter/Paramedic works a 24/48 schedule as subject to current union contract.

Beginning July 1, 2021:

  • Pay range for the position is $19.38 – $25.40/hour.
  • 12 EDOs per year
  • 96 hrs. of vacation 1st year

ENTRY LEVEL

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have State of Ohio EMT-P, a current State of Ohio Level II Firefighter Certification, Hazardous Material Operations Certificate, and a valid Ohio Driver’s License at the time of appointment.  PARAMEDIC STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. The candidate selected for hire must agree to not use tobacco or nicotine containing products, obtain a State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector Certification, be cleared as a primary care giver on the Medic and become a certified Engine Driver/Operator within 12 months of their start date in order to successfully complete their probationary period.  All certifications must be maintained during employment. The applicant must comply with all job description requirements throughout employment. The Fire Chief may waive certain minimum requirements to ensure an adequate candidate pool.

LATERAL ENTRY

Lateral Entry Wage and Benefits: Candidates meet entry level and presently working as a full-time firefighter or paramedic may be considered for a lateral entry pay range, depending on experience and time in grade as determined by the Fire Chief on a case-by-case basis. Vacation accrual credit will be awarded with prior fulltime government service. Accrued sick leave is transferrable with verification from previous local government employer.

Firefighter-Paramedic Job Description

PART-TIME FIREFIGHTER

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for Part-time Firefighter. Under general direction, performs specialized work with regard to protecting life and property through fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services and may assist with fire inspection and code enforcement duties related to the position of Fire Inspector. Minimum qualifications include Ohio certificate for EMT-Basic and Firefighter I, Current Ohio Driver’s license, NIMS 100 and 700. Pay Range is $8.27  – $16.00 / hour.  Applicant must be agreeable to work 24 hours every 6th day.
